At our flight school it actually depends on which location you start your helicopter flight training. If you start receiving your helicopter pilot training in Brackett Airport, then you are not required to have the pilot medical certificate before you start. But if you are receiving helicopter flight training in our El Monte Airport location, you are required to have the pilot medical certificate before you start your flight training.
Because, some potential pilots do hesitate wanting to go to a medical check up, simply because of the fact that you have to go to a "doctor," we sometimes say, " oh, you can get it later." There is nothing wrong with this. But here is the thing. You WILL need to have a valid FAA medical certificate before going on a solo flight in the helicopter, for sure.
